Coming in Spring

The first major event of spring, 1999, is the fourth annual Concours d'Elegance at the Golf Club of Amelia Island March 19-21. This prestigious event showcases some of the world's finest vintage and classic cars and motorcycles. A charity golf tournament and a Gala Dinner at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island are also scheduled.

April on Amelia Island means world-class women's tennis at the Bausch & Lomb Championships during the week of April 5-11, 1999. In last year's final, Mary Pierce (pictured at left) defeated Conchita Martinez 6-7 (10-8), 6-0, 6-2. Past champions include Lindsay Davenport, Steffi Graf and Aranxta Sanchez Vicario. The Shrimp Festival brings lots of visitors, art, crafts, entertainment, food and fun to the streets of Historic Downtown Fernandina.

The signature event of springtime on Amelia Island is the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. The 1999 festival will be held from April 30 through May 3. Come see the streets of historic downtown Fernandina filled with art, crafts, antiques, great seafood and live entertainment.
