If you
are fortunate enough to view Amelia island's southern coastline
from the beach or the water, you may notice a recent addition.
The new Amelia Inn and Beach Club at Amelia Island Plantation
opened in April.

The new Beach Club features a two-level deck with
three pools, a children's play area and the Beach
Club Grill restaurant.
The inn gives the resort a much-needed oceanfront hotel. All of
the 250 luxurious rooms have balconies or patios overlooking the
beach, an oceanfront golf hole and the inn's spectacular
multi-level pool and patio area.
The rooms are also designed to meet the needs of conference
attendees by offering multiple electrical outlets and a minimum
of two telephone lines, one to accommodate computer modems and/or
fax machines. A work table and sufficient light are featured in
the rooms as well.
The new conference facility adds 23,000 square feet of meeting
space and brings the resort total to over 50,000 square feet.
This will enable the Plantation to satisfy the demands of
corporate customers they had not previously been able to
accommodate.
The new Inn also boasts a 180-seat oceanfront restaurant serving
breakfast and dinner daily, including Amelia island's favorite
Sunday Brunch.
In keeping with Amelia Island plantation's history of ecological
awareness, the construction was done with environmental concerns
in mind. A minimum number of trees and vegetation were disturbed
in the process. Several unusual challenges did appear during the
construction. For example, the lighting engineers had to consider
the sea turtle nesting areas on the beach, while insuring that
the lights around the pool areas met safety codes. All in all,
little more than one percent of the resort's 1,330 acres were
disturbed by construction activity.
