A FISH STORY

In a day and age where most people can't seem to put any of their money into savings, Zachery Watson proves that there is always an exception to the rule.

Watson, 12, of Acworth, Georgia, saved his money for a year to pay for a charter fishing trip in Fernandina Beach aboard the Ye Ole Pirate, which is equipped to accomodate handicapped anglers. Each week, he set aside $12 in order to have enough money at the end of a year's time to pay for the trip. His patience was rewarded and his money was well spent. Watson landed a 72-lb. drum (pictured) along with another drum weighing 24 pounds.

The 72-lb. fish weighs more than Watson himself! It took 20 minutes before Watson was able to bring the fish to the boat, which was anchored at the jetty rocks just off Fort Clinch.

This is the second consecutive year that Watson has fished on the Ye Ole Pirate with Captain Steve Hair. Last year's spring break trip was a gift from Zachery's grandparents, Dod and Colleen Schroter of Ponte Vedra Beach. He caught 40 whiting and a shark on that trip. Said Zachery's mother Freida, "He wanted to save his own money and go this spring break."

Zachery plans to make the trip an annual tradition. "I'm going to do it for as long as I live," he said.
