This annual celebration of timeless chamber music attracts acclaimed
artists and music lovers to what was a sleepy fishing village on an island the size of
Manhattan. For three weeks in early summer, music literally spills onto the shady streets
of Amelia Island from venues that range from the historic and the sacred to the elegant
and the lighthearted.
Performers making their festival debut include pianist Horatio Gutierrez, Professor Peter
Schickele (aka P.D.Q. Bach), and the Ritz Chamber players. They will join returning
favorites Lynn Harrell, Orli Shaham, the Guarneri String Quartet, the Takacs String
Quartet, Robert McDuffie, Hilary Hahn, Mark O'Connor, Rachel Barton Pine, Elmar Oliveira,
Valentina Lisitsa, and many others.
The performances at the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival are as exciting as you will
hear anywhere in the world. This year's event spans three weeks and includes 29 concerts,
14 venues and over 50 musicians. If you are lucky enough to experience a festival concert,
you might remember Plato's words: "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the
mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything."
Christopher Rex, Artistic Director of the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, has been
named to the national Chamber Music America Board of Directors in recognition of the
significance of the festival. The Southeast Tourism Society has named the festival to
their Top 20 Events in June.
The opening event of the 2005 festival is a free concert by the Amelia Pops String Quartet
in Central Park at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29. The closing gala, "Virtuosi di
Amelia," will be held on Sunday, June 19, at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.

The /fontfamily>Beer and G-Strings/fontfamily> series at the historic
Palace Saloon is an annual festival favorite.
