Amelia Island Encounters

Day Programs

March 3, 6, 11, 15, 20

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Amelia Island Museum of History offers a once-in-a-life time opportunity to view unique artifacts relating to state and national history.

Enjoy a fun and exciting day as you view the only document signed by both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. See a rare 1865 Lincoln campaign button, slave bills of sale, and an assassination newspaper. Hear a presentation on the story behind the Lincoln/Davis document and go on a personally guided tour of the special Civil War exhibit room.

Take a leisurely lunch on your own at one of the eclectic historic district restaurants and enjoy shopping down the city's charming thoroughfare. Return to the museum for a discussion of rare artifacts from Fernandina's more distant past. Learn about the archeological digs on Amelia Island and view an irreplaceable and intact water pitcher from the 16th century, as well additional Native American artifacts that highlight the amazing story of Amelia Island.

Round out your day with a guided stroll through the lovely architectural splendor of Fernandina Beach's historic district where you will enter a 19th century home, and hear fascinating stories of the people and events that shaped Fernandina's character.
