   World-class tennis returns to Amelia  at the Bausch & Lomb Championships, which takes place April 8 -14 at Amelia Island Plantation.

    This tournament, now in its 23rd year, is an island tradition. It is the second-oldest U.S. event on the women's tour. Bausch & Lomb has been the title sponsor for the last 16 years. The list of past champions here reads like a Who's Who of tennis history, including Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Sabatini and Sanchez-Vicario.

   At presstime, players committed to play this year's event include two-time Bausch & Lomb champion Monica Seles, reigning Wimbledon and U.S. Open champion Venus Williams, Anna Kournikova and rising Belgian star Justine Henin. Also expected to play this year are defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France and Amanda Coetzer of South Africa.
This tournament has grown to become a favorite for fans and players alike due to the beautiful surroundings and relaxed atmosphere.

     The Bausch & Lomb Championships will continue its "Commitment to Community" campaign in 2002.
