BAUSCH & LOMB CHAMPIONSHIPS
April 9-15 at Amelia Island Plantation

    The best tennis players in the world will return to Amelia Island in April for the annual Bausch &
Lomb Championships. This year's event is scheduled for April 9-15 at Amelia Island Plantation.
    Monica Seles, winner of this event for the past two years, will return to defend her title. Seles has a chance to join Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf and Gabriela Sabatini as three-time champions.

     Standing in Seles' way are a host of top-ranked challengers including the world's number-one
ranked woman, Martina Hingis, who is making her first appearance here. Also scheduled to play
are past Bausch & Lomb champions Mary Pierce and Aranxta Sanchez Vicario, along with crowd favorites Anna Kournikova and Amanda Coetzer.
    Speaking of Martina Navratilova, she has come out of retirement to play a limited doubles
schedule in 2001. She will return to Amelia Island this year and play doubles with Aranxta Sanchez
Vicario.

     The Bausch & Lomb Championships will continue its "Commitment to Community" program in
2001. This program benefits several charities in the Jacksonville and Fernandina Beach areas,
including the Amelia Island Montessori School, the Pilot Club of Jacksonville and Tennis Against
Breast Cancer.
