Les DeMerle Amelia Island Jazz Festival

Amelia Island will once again be filled with the sounds of world-class jazz as the Les DeMerle Amelia Island Jazz Festival returns the week of October 7-14.

Performers at the 2007 festival include:

• The Bill Allred Classic Jazz Band - Led by renowned trombonist Bill Allred, this "monster octet" plays everything from Jelly Roll Morton to Count Basie and all stops in between.

• Frank Tiberi and the Woody Herman Sax Section - An internationally-acclaimed saxophonist and clarinetist, Frank leads the legendary Woody Herman Thundering Herd Jazz Band.

• Barry Greene and Trio - This jazz guitarist extraordinaire is described in AllAboutJazz.com as "An excellent player, a superior musician with power to spare."

• Bob Pickwood - Trumpet virtuoso and jazz vocal stylist, Bob plays with the spirit of New Orleans and the soul of bebop.

• Billy Ross - Tenor saxophone great and Stan Getz protégé, Billy Ross brings passion and "saxuality" to every performance.

• The Dynamic Les DeMerle Super Big Band featuring vocalist Bonnie Eisele - In the words of Downbeat magazine, Les and his vocalist wife, Bonnie, are "Upbeat from the downbeat, one of the most exciting acts on the jazz scene today."

Free jazz concert at the Amelia Park Bandstand featuring the University of North Florida Jazz Ensemble (bring your lawn chairs and blankets)

Monday, October 8

7 - 10 p.m.
Jazz Festival Sponsors Party at the Harbor Front Hampton Inn & Suites. Entertainment by the Les DeMerle Trio, featuring Bonnie Eisele, and special guest Sam Kouvaris, WJXT-TV Sports Director, on trumpet and vocals. (Admission free for festival sponsors)

Tuesday-Thursday, October 9-11

Jazz workshops and performances for area students and senior citizens.

Friday, October 12

St. Peter's Episcopal Church Courtyard
5:30 Food Court - cuisine from area restaurants
7-10 p.m. Jazz Concert • Tickets $30

• The Dynamic Les DeMerle 8-piece Band, featuring vocalist Bonnie Eisele, with special guests Mike Levine on piano and Billy Ross on tenor sax in a tribute to Stan Getz
• The Bill Allred Classic Jazz Band
• Count Basie Tribute: Big Band Grand Jam - featuring the combined 8-piece Allred and DeMerle Bands.
